'Competition' Sheets

Site Choice - Townhead

Inspired by the visit to Amsterdam, I have decided upon my location for the project. Influenced by the nature of performance buildings out with the capitalist opportunities that Glasgow offers, I began to look at the influence a performing arts building can have within a social and domestic environment. On this basis, I have decided that the area of townhead will be the area the design will consume. An area concerned mostly with housing, there are parts of the site suggestive to the notion of play. Football pitches, grassy greens and play parks all convey the notion that people are intend to play within the area, but with no focus of ‘event’, the idea is condensed and somewhat diluted. A site towards the western end of the housing scheme, intened as a relaxing garden space, is left unattended and abandoned. This space is highly suitable to the project’s statement, and will be the focus for the projects development. A few initial photos are attached;

Staging the act has now taken a back seat to the design project. Having trouble organising a venue, but still chasing up a few links so fingers crossed for now. Having been encouraged by a few urban cinema opportunities I explored in Amsterdam, I have now began to focus on the next stage of the project.
